Prof Noam Shomron and his team, at the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, have developed an assay for the identification of point mutations and insertion-deletions in the entire embryonic DNA within the mother's blood. The test is initiated with a simple blood test at week 10 of pregnancy. The academic team is now seeking partners for validation studies, and then for commercialization. A patent is pending.
